                    Frequently Asked Questions

                    Picture
What type of clothes should my dancer wear? All dancers should wear appropriate dance clothing to class.  The suggested attire is a leotard and tights.  This will allow the instructors to correct student's alignment and position.  Hair should be tied back.

What kind of shoes are needed?
Dance shoes are not required until you know that your child is interested in dance (this applies to young children ONLY).  Shoes can be purchased at the studio or elsewhere.  Tap shoes & leather ballet slippers are need for the combination classes.  We will NOT allow your child to dance in the satin ballet slippers that retail stores sometimes sell as ballet slippers.   All shoes are available to order new through the studio.  Used shoes are available for resale as well (ask at the front desk).

Can we watch my child's class?
A parent may observe the first few lessons (only) if the dancer is uncomfortable with being left alone with us at the studio.  If you prefer, ,we also have a lobby area for you to wait while your child is at his/her lesson.  We will open classes periodically throughout the year for you to observe your child.  These dates will be posted in the lobby ahead of time to allow for planning.  If you have a special visitor from out of town (grandma, grandpa, auntie or uncle, etc) who would like to come watch your child during class, please check with the front desk prior to their visit.

Do the dancers have some type of performance?
Our annual dance recital is held at the end of the dance season, generally in May or June.  Students are not required to participate, but it is a fun and rewarding experience for those who do.

What do we need to do for this performance?
Performances are held in the auditorium at the Cloquet Senior High school.  Tickets to the performance are generally sold 2 weeks prior to the performance and continue to be sold up to the night of the performance.  The doors to the auditorium open at 5:30 for the performance.  You simply need to bring your child, fully dressed in their recital costume along with their dance shoes and additional costume pieces (if applicable), to the cafeteria in the High School and drop your child off.  We arrange supervision for your children so you can relax and enjoy the recital.  Performances generally run from 6:00pm - 9:00pm.  We try to follow a similar schedule which generally follows:5:30 doors open6:00 Trophy Presentation6:30 Pre-show (solos/duets)7:00 Recital begins  8:00 Intermission8:15 Recital 2nd half starts9:00-9:15 Finale. We know that little ones can get tired early and are not accustomed to late nights.  Generally we will work both of the younger students routines into the first half of the recital so you can take your child home at intermission if you so choose.

Can I come see what you have to offer before I enroll my child?
We encourage prospective parents and students to view our classes prior to enrolling.  See for yourself what you and your child can experience.  We feel very confident that you will like what you see.   Please call us (218-879-6717) prior to your visit so we can be sure that you and/or your student are able to view a time slot pertinent to their age group and dance preference.  How does tuition work?On the 1st of each month we charge monthly tuition to your account.  This tuition must be paid by the 15th of the month to prevent a $5.00 late charge from being applied.

Do I still get charged for a class if my child is absent?
Yes, we charge a flat monthly charge.  If your child is absent for illness, family trip, etc we offer make classes.  For make up times, please check with the front desk.  The only exceptions to this rule are funerals & weddings.

What happens if there is bad weather?  Does the studio close?
The only time the studio will close is if Cloquet High School closes due to bad weather.  If Esko, Carlton or any other school closes but Cloquet is open so is the dance studio.

Does the studio close for teachers in-service or spring break?
No, the studio will remain open for all in-services and spring breaks.

How old do you have to be to participate on the competition team?
Your child must have completed Kindergarten or be asked by an instructor to audition.
